John founded Nicola Wealth in 1994 after 20 years in the financial services industry. He provides strategic leadership to Nicola Wealth, exercising his passion for providing innovative solutions to clients’ complex problems.
John’s expertise lies in investment management, estate planning, financial planning, and business planning. He focuses on wealth building best practices, exit strategies, and shareholder agreements. Originally from the insurance industry, John evolved into wealth management to help clients retire comfortably. However, the firm’s skill set has grown to include legacy planning and philanthropy due to changes in client situations. The firm’s success can be attributed to its combination of advanced financial planning and asset management diversification, providing clients with the breadth of asset classes they need to be truly diversified.
In 2011, John was selected as the winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Financial and Professional Services in the Pacific Region), and in 2015 John was named the winner of Business In Vancouver’s BC CEO of the Year Award – Small-Medium Private Company. Most recently, John was also recognized as one of Canada’s Most Admired CEOs. He is a founding member of CALU (Conference for Life Underwriters) and has continued to contribute to the organization over the years.
